ABOUT US

From classrooms to tech labs — together we build futures.

AfroCareCLT is a Collective focused on Charlotte’s Sister City of Kumasi, Ghana — with a special focus on supporting educational initiatives in the Greater Kumasi Area. Hosted annually in Charlotte, North Carolina, AfroCareCLT features two signature events — the AfroCareCLT Cultural Gala and our Wine & Wonder event.

In 2023, our focus was building a new middle school for Akyremade Junior High School (JHS), located in a village just outside of the Greater Kumasi Area in Ghana. Thanks to the incredible support of our community, the new middle school is now a reality — providing students with a safe and inspiring place to learn.

For 2025, we are excited to focus on building a Technology Lab housed within the new middle school. This lab will provide students with critical access to digital tools, resources, and training that are essential for success in today’s world. It’s the next step in our commitment to expanding educational opportunities and empowering the next generation of leaders.

AfroCareCLT is powered by the collaboration of several Charlotte-based organizations, including Asanteman Charlotte, Charlotte International Cabinet, Charlotte Sister Cities, Eh’vivi, Little Listeners, My Forking Life, South Academy of International Language, Springclean, Work Meaningful Foundation, and Work. Meaningful. In addition to these organizations, several dedicated individuals who are not directly affiliated with an organization also play an essential role in advancing our mission. Together, we believe in the power of education to transform lives.

We host two annual events to fuel our mission: the AfroCareCLT Gala, held in mid-September, and Wine & Wonder, held in early March. The Gala is a lively evening of culture, celebration, and fundraising, while Wine & Wonder offers a more intimate space for meaningful connection, storytelling, and deepening our collective commitment to global education.

In many parts of Ghana, students face significant barriers to education — from long walks to school and inadequate facilities to a lack of essential resources like school uniforms and technology. By supporting our efforts, you help bridge this gap and give students access to the resources they need to thrive.

With your support, we can provide students not just with a school, but with the tools to build their future. Every dollar donated brings us closer to equipping the Technology Lab and changing lives for generations to come. Join us in our mission to expand education and opportunity — together, we are creating a brighter future.

OUR STORY

David Lynn (Charlotte Sister Cities) invited Justin Jones-Fosu (Work Meaningful Foundation) to help with the event bringing the mayor Kumasi, Ghana to Charlotte on September 19, 2022.  At this meeting Justin was connected to Anthony Atiase (Afro In CLT), Chef Awo and her husband Kevin (Eh’vivi), and Solomon Agyemang (Asanteman Charlotte).  In conversation they decided there was more they could do together than apart to support the continent of Africa.  A seminal meeting was held in the Fall of 2022 and the idea of an annual cultural gala & fundraiser was birthed.

Current Initiative: 2025

The Akyeremade JHS Middle School Tech Lab

We are thrilled to announce that we are in the early stages of building a Technology Lab for students in Ghana. This lab will be housed in the new middle school we recently built, marking another significant milestone for our organization and the communities we serve.

As we begin this next chapter, we are committed to ensuring that the Technology Lab provides a safe, innovative, and inclusive learning environment. We are working closely with local communities and educational experts to ensure the lab is equipped with the tools and technology necessary to open new doors of opportunity for students.

Building a state-of-the-art Technology Lab from the ground up is a challenging process, but we are dedicated to seeing it through. We believe that every child deserves access to the digital resources and skills needed to thrive in today’s world, and we are excited about the transformative impact this lab will have on students and their futures.

Thank you for your support as we embark on this exciting project. We look forward to commissioning the Technology Lab during our 2026 Summer Ghana Experience. Together, we can help equip the next generation with the skills and opportunities they deserve.
